Statements about the possible health benefits of tea have surrounded the drink since its discovery over 5,000 years ago. Though many subscribed to these beliefs, despite prior lack of empirical evidence, recent studies suggest rumors may not be far from the truth.
For centuries drinkers have acknowledged Green tea to be the primary source of tea’s healing powers. According to research, the antioxidant property of Polyphenol, a natural chemical in Green tea, has the potential to help prevent certain types of cancer. Further research points to other tea varieties possessing similar attributes; a logical deduction considering that all true tea comes from the same plant. Though finite claims have yet to be made, research is ongoing with the intent of further validation and recognition.
Other suspected health benefits of drinking tea include: cholesterol reduction, weight loss, general immune strength and lower cognitive impairment.
